Our Vision

Redefine Alliance helps tenacious entrepreneurs build double-bottom-line businesses.

The businesses we back, called “employment social enterprises,” exist to create jobs and economic mobility for overlooked talent across the country.

These companies produce and sell high-quality products and services, then reinvest their profits into their employees and communities. We partner with the social entrepreneurs who lead these businesses, amplifying their success and the success of the people they employ.

It’s time we built a new future — one that redefines how we see talent.

Ten million Americans are shut out of the economy due to barriers like homelessness or incarceration.

The employment social enterprises we support create quality jobs paired with wraparound support for people overcoming the toughest barriers to employment. These are real businesses generating revenue while building economic power and creating fresh starts for employees.

Great talent, revealed

Since 1997, we’ve helped amplify the success of hundreds of employment social enterprises and the people they employ.

Here are a few:

From individual impact to systemic change

Since 1997, Redefine has invested in 363 ESEs in 42 states and D.C., which have generated over $3 billion in revenue and employed more than 157,000 people. In this strategic period, which started in 2026, we’re building thriving ecosystems, strengthening the national field of ESEs, and expanding the evidence base.

Commitments in Action

We invest exclusively in employment social enterprises, prioritizing entrepreneurs who share the lived experience of those they employ, believing that those most proximate to the challenge are often the most innovative at identifying solutions that endure. And we do our work with a lens of ensuring everyone has the access and opportunity to thrive.
