iFoster
iFoster is a national child welfare non-profit whose mission is to ensure that every child growing up outside of their biological home has the resources and opportunities they need to become successful, independent adults and reach their full potential. Annually, iFoster connects over 150,000 system-impacted children and youth to over $433 Million in resources; trains and certifies over 300 foster youth for careers in healthcare, social services, and sustainable economy; and provides peer support to over 10,000 youth aging out of foster care to support their transition to self-sufficiency. iFoster’s ReMade is one of the only social enterprises in the country turning the textile-waste crisis into careers for foster youth. California’s Responsible Textile Recovery Act (SB 707) now requires producers to fund a statewide system to collect, repair, reuse, and remanufacture the textiles they sell. This is a new industry being built from the ground up, with almost no one yet undertaking workforce development and remanufacturing at scale. ReMade steps into that gap. Foster youth design, produce, and sell ComFYies, the first commercially produced remanufactured plush toys in the United States, and package reclaimed clothing into kits distributed free to youth in foster care.
